It has been a busy four weeks for the Community Draught Busters team. We have just finished installing draught proofing measures for a children’s centre in Brixton Water Lane.
Meanwhile, we are currently working on a project that some of you will recognise from the photo.
If you haven’t guessed its Lambeth Town Hall
Community Draught Busters have been given the opportunity to draught proof the iconic Lambeth Town Hall. We have been able to install carbon saving measures to doors and windows throughout the building. More information later……..
Community Draught Busters working in Partnership with Brixton Energy
Brixton Energy is now in the roll-out phase of its next community energy project at the Roupell Estate. Community Draught Busters is proud to be providing energy efficiency and draught proofing training to the Brixton Energy’s interns.
This group of young people have successfully completed energy efficiency audits on their homes and have applied draught proofing measures where appropriate. All of the young people reported that their family members were impressed both with the quality of the work achieved and how better their homes felt afterwards.
We would like to wish all our supporters a happy 2013. The focus for 2013 is on the continued battle against fuel/energy poverty and its negative effects on the community. We will be running more sessions explaining how to save energy including more home visits. We’ll be updating the upcoming events section on a regular basis.
We are also looking for volunteers to help us with our work. If you be interested in installing energy efficiency measures or giving energy reduction advice, please let us know.
We would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Brixton Energy group for all their efforts in launching a major community solar PV project in Brixton. Everyone in Brixton will have an opportunity to subscribe to a share offer that will generate income for both the individual and for energy projects in the borough. For more information, see the Transition Town Brixton website…www.transitiontownbrixton.org/
TTB community Draught Busters are pleased to announce a new series of workshops for 2012. These include the usual suspects such as draught proofing and curtain lining, but with a slight twist. Our emphasis is on exploring how participants can use the skills they have learnt to support the community and generate some income.
New for 2012 are the renewable energy courses taking place in February/March 2012.The demand for these course is high, so book your place as soon as possible.
Many of us have responded with dismay to the recent announcement that the solar pv feed-in-tariff is to be dramatically reduced. The heads up is that if you were thinking of having a solar pv system installed, you better do it before the 12th December when the new rates come into effect.
The Draught Busters team have been busy during the summer lining up some great things for the autumn.

The estimated cost to the NHS of too cold homes is £145 million a year. Several charities have approached the government to tackle the problem of inadequate heating and insulation in the UK’s rented accommodation sector.
Major illnesses such as respiratory illness, strokes and hypothermia are exacerbated by poor insulation, faulty boilers and rising heating costs. It is estimated that there are 655,800 homes rented from a landlord or letting agency that are so cold they are officially a health hazard, with a bottom-of-the-scale energy efficiency rating of F or G.
Friends of the Earth, Crisis, Citizens Advice and Age UK are challenging the government to make it an offence for landlords and letting agents to rent out homes that pose a health risk.
